South India is our country’s top coffee-growing region. FAQs

1. Which coffee bean is better – Arabica or Robusta?

Each coffee bean is unique, and the quality and flavor vary depending on growing conditions, regional climate, and terrain.

Arabica coffee beans grow at greater elevations and mature more slowly. As a result, the beans’ aroma, flavor, and intensity are enhanced and become more complex. This coffee bean has a refined, more sophisticated taste profile with fruity undertones, a mild caffeine content, and a low acidity level. Robusta beans, on the other hand, grow at a lower elevation, which produces a coffee that is fuller-bodied, more robust, and contains higher caffeine. It’s natural oils and strong caffeine levels make it perfect for making espresso shots.

2. Is ground coffee the same as instant coffee?

No, it isn’t.

Ground coffee is made from whole beans that have been washed, dried, roasted, and then crushed to varying levels of coarseness. Instant coffee is made from pre-brewed ground coffee that has been further processed into finer granules by concentration, dehydration, freeze-drying, or spray-drying.

Secondly, each requires a different preparation technique. You can brew ground coffee with a Moka pot, a French press, an AeroPress, or the conventional South Indian filter. You can also try the pour-over method to get the best taste out of fresh ground coffee powder. To make a hot beverage, simply add the instant coffee to a cup of hot water or milk (depending on your preference) and add some sweetener to it. If you like to drink iced coffee, then mix your favourite flavored instant coffee with cold milk, a little water, and a sweetener, and pour it over a glass filled with some milk and ice cubes. For a dash of extra flavor, top it up with a good chocolate syrup or any ice cream of your choice.

Thirdly, ground coffee has a higher caffeine content than instant coffee. In terms of taste, ground coffee is richer and more nuanced with slight fruity, nutty, or floral undertones, while instant coffee is slightly milder with a more uniform flavor.

3. How to choose the best ground coffee in India?

Check the grind and roast of the coffee bean or the ground coffee powder. Medium roasts have lower acidity and a more balanced taste. They are perfect for espressos, filter-style brews, or as a cold brew.

Medium ground coffee is the most commonly available grind in Indian markets. It is a little more full-bodied, making it ideal for traditional filter coffee. If you want more depth and flavor in your brew, then you should buy coarse ground coffee. It’s best to use a French press to brew this coffee variety to extract more flavor.

4. Do I need a filter to make ground coffee?

A filter helps separate the liquid brew from the coffee grounds and keeps the flavor and aroma intact. So, using a filtering device matters if you want to fully enjoy the authentic taste of coffee. You can use a fine-mesh sieve or a piece of fine-grade, organic muslin to filter the fresh ground coffee powder if you don't have a coffee maker.
